The dark side of star formation in galaxy clusters: spectroscopic follow-up of clusters observed with ISOCAM
نویسنده
چکیده
The evolution of galaxies in cluster environments can be studied using mid-IR observations which trace star forming regions hidden by dust. The optical follow-up of A1689 (z=0.2), observed at 6.7 and 15 μm by ISOCAM, have revealed a systematic excess of the B-[15 μm] galaxy color distribution with respect that of Coma and Virgo clusters. This result suggests the existence of a dark side of the Butcher-Oemler effect measured in the optical. We present an analysis of the optical/midIR properties of the mid-IR emitters in A1689, comparing in particular the star formation rates based on mid-IR and optical data. Morover, we present preliminary result for J1888, a cluster at z = 0.56 deeply observed with ISOCAM, based on recent VLT/FORS and NTT/SOFI observations.

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملCosmological Evolution of Supergiant Star-Forming Clouds
In an exploration of the birthplaces of globular clusters, we present a careful examination of the formation of self-gravitating gas clouds within assembling dark matter haloes in a hierarchical cosmological model. Our high-resolution smoothed particle hydrodynamical simulations are designed to determine whether or not hypothesized supergiant molecular clouds (SGMCs) form and, if they do, to de...
متن کاملStar formation activity of intermediate redshift cluster galaxies out to the infall regions
We present a spectroscopic analysis of two galaxy clusters at z≈ 0.2, out to ∼ 4 Mpc. The two clusters VMF73 and VMF74 as identified by Vikhlinin et al. (1998) were observed with multiple object spectroscopy using MOSCA at the Calar Alto 3.5 m telescope. Both clusters lie in the ROSAT Position Sensitive Proportional Counter field R285 and were selected from the X-ray Dark Cluster Survey (Gilban...
متن کاملThe Evolution of the Star Formation Activity in Galaxies and Its Dependence on Environment
We study how the proportion of star-forming galaxies evolves between z = 0.8 and z = 0 as a function of galaxy environment, using the [OII] line in emission as a signature of ongoing star formation. Our high-z dataset comprises 16 clusters, 10 groups and another 250 galaxies in poorer groups and the field at z = 0.4 − 0.8 from the ESO Distant Cluster Survey, plus another 9 massive clusters at s...
